My sensor told me how much. I wanted to know why.
GlucoBeat wasn't born in a meeting room. It was born from someone with diabetes holding a phone, staring at a curve and trying to work out what had just happened. If that sounds familiar, this story is a little bit yours too.
Hi, I'm Diego
My name is Diego Manuel Béjar. I work in tech: I help startups as an external CTO (what the industry calls “CTO as a service”) to design and build their product. And I also have diabetes.
So I live between two worlds: one of well-made apps, fast and designed for the people who use them, and one of checking my glucose several times a day with tools that aren't always up to the job.
A brilliant sensor, an app that fell short for me
Let me be clear: the FreeStyle Libre is a great tool. Being able to see your glucose at any moment, without pricking your finger all the time, is wonderful.
The problem, for me, was everything else. In the everyday app I kept fighting with basic things:
- I wanted to zoom in on that after-lunch peak to see it up close… and I couldn't.
- I wanted to go back to a specific day a few weeks ago, or compare two dates, without stepping through one by one… and I had to be very patient.
- I wanted to write down what I'd done in my own words and then see it clearly, in its place on the chart… and the notes fell short.
- And above all, I wanted to understand the effect of what I did: was it the pasta? The walk? How late I had dinner? That answer wasn't anywhere.
If you have diabetes, you probably know exactly what I mean: the data is there, but making sense of it is another story.
So I did what I know how to do
My job is turning problems into products. One day I asked myself the obvious question: if a startup asked me for this, how would I solve it? And I started building.
The idea behind GlucoBeat fits in one line: events → consequences. You log what you do (meals, exercise, insulin, medication, sleep) and the app shows you what happened to your glucose afterwards: the peak, how long it took and when you got back to your usual level.
And around that, everything I'd been missing: charts you can zoom into, a calendar to jump to any day with one tap, notes you can see where they belong and statistics to see the whole picture.
Built by someone like you
Every GlucoBeat feature exists because I missed it in my own day-to-day. It isn't an app designed from the outside: I build it with my own data in front of me and the same questions you have.
That's also why I'm clear about what it must never be: GlucoBeat doesn't replace your healthcare team, doesn't diagnose and will never tell you what dose to take. It's there so you understand your glucose and walk into your appointment with clear information. The decisions are yours, together with your doctor.
This is only the beginning
GlucoBeat will keep growing with what we learn along the way. Every improvement comes from the same question I asked myself: what do I need to understand myself a little better?
If you live with diabetes, or you're supporting someone who does, welcome. This app is yours too.
